Who Is Mike Romero?
I like to think of myself as a son of Magna. I grew up exploring its streets, riding bikes with friends, and learning life’s lessons from neighbors and local church leaders. Magna shaped me — I attended Magna Elementary, Brockbank Junior High, and Cyprus High School. My diploma still bears the image of the old school building, a lasting reminder of the place I will always call home.
In high school, I earned my EMT-B certification and worked as an EMT in Wendover, serving the community on Wendover Ambulance before and after my LDS mission. That experience taught me not only emergency care but also the importance of strong, resilient emergency systems. I maintained my certification for eight years and became an advocate for rural ambulance services, engaging directly with our representatives to push for better support.
After serving an LDS mission in South Korea, I joined the Utah Army National Guard as a Korean linguist. I served for three years until an injury in the line of duty led to a medical discharge. My time in uniform reflects a lifelong commitment to service — I took that oath knowing the risks, driven by the belief that service to country is among the highest callings.
Alongside my military service, I built a career in technology, specializing in reliability and platform engineering. Today, I work as a Staff Platform Engineer at NetDocuments, a respected Utah-based company. My career journey includes contributions at Microsoft, HealthEquity, and Teksystems Global Services, where I’ve helped build and secure critical systems at scale. I’ve held leadership and architect roles in the software engineering field, and I’m no stranger to accountability, hard work, or guiding complex projects to successful completion.
Outside of work, I’m an avid outdoorsman. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, camping, and mountaineering — taking every opportunity to experience Utah’s natural beauty. I’m also passionate about the arts, spending my spare time on photography, painting, and writing as ways to reflect on the world around me.
My roots in Magna, combined with my professional, service, and personal experiences, have shaped me into someone who believes deeply in community, responsibility, and delivering meaningful results.
